We’re all living in a pandemic right now, handling months of loneliness and months out of work. But now, finally, its the holiday season! Some families are celebrating virtually, some outside, and others in small groups at home with masks. It feels like the world is slowly going back to normal! As you are getting ready for your family and friend visits, whether its online or in person, you want to look your best and in some situations, that means using tips to work around wearing a mask!

1- Cleanse Your Face.

Cleansing your skin has always been an important step before any makeup application. New products have come out that are designed specifically for a face that's covered by a mask all day. The most important thing you can do to prevent breakouts and irritation is to keep your skin clean and well moisturized. Before and after wearing your mask, gently cleanse your face with a pH-balanced, non comedogenic cleanser to remove oil, dirt, makeup and bacteria. Look for moisturizers that have dimethicone or ceramides as ingredients, which can help repair the skin barrier to prevent irritation from the masks.

2- Foundation On or Off?

What if you're wearing a mask one but youre going to take it off as you eat food? If

you're still looking for a flawless look, pick a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen. Limit the use of your foundation, blushes and contouring. This will help your skin breath under your mask. If you really want a popping look, continue your usual makeup routine only above the nose and around the eyes. But make sure your skin still blends with the rest of your face!

3- Eyes Are Everything.

They say the eyes are the window to the soul. With half our faces covered, what else can we look at besides the eyes? Really concentrate on your eyes, make them the centerpiece of your makeup look. Don't forget to hydrate your eyes before applying your look. This will help you appear awake and refreshed. After you’ve hydrated your eyes, its time to pick your eye look! If you want to look dark and mysterious, instead of a bold red lipstick, go for a bold eye shadow look, maybe even black eyeliner.

4- Bring Skin Cleansers With You!

Face masks create a closed up environment that increases the amount of moisture next to your skin. This excess moisture poses no concern if you're wearing a mask for a short amount of time. But if you're around family and friends all day, talking and catching up, the excess moisture can lead to breakouts and skin irritation on the chin, cheeks or nasal bridge. Keep a gentle, fragrance-free, non comedogenic moisturizer with you and a gentle face cleanser before reapplying your makeup if you're going to have any under gentle face cleanser before reapplying your makeup if you're going to have any under your mask.

5- Lashes And Brows!

What better way to make your look pop than stunning lashes and well formed brows? Lashes and brows have become the staple of every makeup look as they're the best way to glam up any style. Puff your eyebrows and use a clear brow gel to hold them in place. Use false eyelashes, either glue on or magnetic, and line it up with an eyeliner to blind them into your lash line.

6- Wash Your Mask Often!

This sounds like a no brainer, and it has everything to do with your makeup application! Wearing a face mask for long periods of time is like wearing a thick coat of foundation that collects bacteria. If you want a smooth and flawless look free of breakouts, its important to change your mask often.

7- Holiday Eyeshadow Colors

Pick eyeshadow looks that really match the festivities you're trying to celebrate! This is where the fun part comes in! Focus on a light blue tone for snow, or a fierce red eyeshadow for christmas colors in the heat. Set your eye look with a light cream or powder to help hold the look, and don't forget your lashes!

8- Include Your Hair In Your Makeup Look

If you're looking for more of a focus on your makeup look besides the eyes, brows and lashes, including your hair into your style is always a good idea! If you're going for a 50’s pop look, curling and pinning your hair will match perfectly. A traditional festive look includes loose curls, a bow for christmas and a light makeup look. You can have just as much fun with your hair as you do with your makeup to really pull the look together!
